OUR APPROACH

Geovolve takes pride in our holistic approach to the delivery of each and every geospatial project. We know the successful delivery of technology is not necessarily about the technology. It's about the people and the impact of change on their world.

The company’s approach is never just a matter of implementing new GIS platforms. Rather, the work is built on carefully integrating all relevant business processes around the platform.

We focus on the information flow through your business processes, where geospatial technology can best be used to enhance that flow, and how people can facilitate the delivery of business outcomes with minimal side-effects and maximised capability and capacity.

Even though we are an ESRI business partner we are not a software vendor. This is why we are so rigorous in gathering information via consultation and workshops. Only then can we deliver the necessary insight and action in order to enact positive change.

Project management is as much about collaboration as it is coordination. Clear and forthright communication is vital. In this way organisations can fully understand not just ‘what’ is being implemented but ‘why’.

Our clients don’t inherit change – they own it.

WHERE WE’VE COME FROM

Justin Fail started Geovolve in 2020 when, after taking a long, hard look at the industry landscape, he determined there was a need for big-picture thought leadership and practical systems application in the GIS discipline.

Decades of previous work provided the perfect springboard for this decision. Born in Tokoroa and now residing in Christchurch, Justin’s career has taken him around the globe, from the South Pacific to the Middle East to Northern Europe. He arrived back in New Zealand with invaluable experience after working for organisations that covered GIS software vendors, IT management, engineering consultancy firms, and technology startups.

With these organisations working in electricity, gas, civil and roading, forestry, environmental and planning disciplines, Justin was well positioned to make the most of a multifaceted perspective and skillset.

  • Having previously experienced the challenges of fast-moving technology and change management up close, he knew where the pain points were. Processes were overly complicated, departments haphazardly siloed, information used for reporting but not for the efficient planning and implementing of change.

The arrival of Geovolve provided front-foot consultation work that was clearly needed – a jargon-light style and a pragmatic, get-it-done mindset could make a big difference.

This work benefits from a wider collaborative environment also. At an early stage of the Geovolve journey Justin realised how important it was to build a close-knit network – one that could seamlessly deliver platform design and implementation, data transformation, change management, and technical activation across any given project.

This is how Geovolve now provides a wraparound service that is greater than the sum of its parts. The specialised expertise of project partners ensures the right skills are available for each element. It is why companies across a wide range of industries now appreciate the strategic acumen and pragmatic guidance that Geovolve delivers

After many years in the trenches of software development and system implementation, and work in business analysis and project management, I realised the peril companies faced by when over-complicating IT-led projects. I take immense satisfaction from cutting through the noise, re-focusing efforts, aligning strategic and information management strategies and, in doing so, improving process and empowering people.
— Justin Fail, Geovolve founder
